Small piece from the top of fine-grained white marble base stained brown and heavily encrusted ( 0.055 0.033 0.048 ).

 Inscribed on the face. 0.01 to 0.015; Reynolds mentions 'lunate epsilon', which is contradictory with the date attributed to the inscription. Findspot. Perhaps third century B.C.

Found in 1977 at Cyrene: Enclosed sanctuary of Demeter and Kore: area C13, 1, 2.

Commentary

As suggested by Reynolds, the name of Kore would have stood at line 2 and most presumably in the dative case, as shown by many other inscriptions in the same context. It is impossible to decide whether the base was also dedicated to Demeter, but this remains quite plausible, owing to the very small width of the fragment compared with the usual dimensions of a base.

Having no image to check, we follow J. Reynolds for the suggested date.
