Part of a local limestone block, re-cut at left, above and below for re-use in a Roman wall (dimensions not measured).

 Inscribed on the face. 0.01-0.03, perhaps by different hands; slanting sigma. Port of Cyrene, later Apollonia. Perhaps third or second century B.C.

Found in 2010 by the French Mission in the Port of Cyrene, later Apollonia: during the excavations of the area of Kallikrateia Rock, re-used in the Northern wall of the Roman portico in front of a cave, below the rock north-westward.

Commentary

This very fragmentary block is not very rewarding. The very tender local limestone, exposed to the action of wind and salt, is a very bad support for inscriptions. The fist letter at line 1 was perhaps a much eroded eta. The third line may have been added later on, as its sigma differs notably from that at line 1.
