A double rock-cut altar with two shallow compartments, both in good condition (dimensions unknown).

 Inscribed on the front, one letter in correspondence with each compartment. a) 0.05; b) 0.055, somewhat clumsily cut; epsilon with equal bars, spool shaped zeta. Findspot. Perhaps fourth of third century B.C.

Found between 2008 and 2012 by the Mission of Urbino at Cyrene: Southern Extra-Mural Sacred Zone, North-West of the Extra-Mural Temple of Demeter.

First studied in 2012 by E. Rosamilia in situ.

Commentary

E. Rosamilia found no argument for a more tightened chronology and it is perhaps hazardous to argue with only two characters. However the shapes of both seem to C. Dobias-Lalou rather ancient and she would prefer the first part of the fourth century B.C.

As pointed out by E. Rosamilia, there is at Cyrene one other instance of divine names abbreviated on a similar altar with only one letter: IGCyr103430.
