Support

White marble base with egg and dart mouldings at top and bottom on three sides (whole base 0.855; 0.32;0.585).

Layout

Inscribed in two lines on front face between the mouldings (0.74; 0.155;0.48), in two lines carefully centred.

Letters

0.045; very carefully cut; very small serifs; still slanting mu and sigma; the right part of pi is longer than usual.

Place of Origin

Cyrene .

Probably first quarter of the third century B.C. (lettering, prosopography)

Found before 1979 at Cyrene : probably from South Necropolis .

Last recorded Location

Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1979 at Cyrene : inside archaeological enclosure North of Caesareum .

This man might be the son of Kallippos son of Melanippos who is the first strategos on duty in 320 (see IGCyr010800, l. 74). About that family, see Laronde, 1987 , pp. 102, 117.
