Support

White marble block, later re-cut into two joining pieces, of which the right one has also been recut on top; holes for two feet on top; (whole piece: width 0.75; depth 0.54; fragment a, height 0.21; fragment b, height 0.16).

Layout

Inscribed on front face in two lines centred along middle axis.

Letters

0.023; deeply cut, no serifs, symmetrical nu, slanting sigma.

Place of Origin

Cyrene : Sanctuary of Apollo.

Probably fourth century B.C. (lettering)

Findspot

Found by G. Oliverio in 1925 at Cyrene : Sanctuary of Apollo , reused in a building West of the Temple of Artemis .

Later recorded Location

Seen by Pugliese Carratelli in 1960 'in the Sanctuary of Apollo '.

Last recorded Location

Seen in 1983 and again in 2004 by C. Dobias-Lalou at findspot.

Commentary

Both fragments are now pasted together.

Oliverio, 1927 dated the inscription of the third century B.C., which seems too late for the lettering.
