Commentary

The date is of J.M. Reynolds' responsability.

The third letter of line 1, which J.M. Reynolds transcribed as a rho, would produce a desperate reading. The photograph shows a shape different from the following rho and seems to allow a gamma. The reading would then produce the beginning of a sentence that would necessarily follow at least another one now lost.

At the beginning of line 2, given the shifted inset, we should have the beginning of a pentameter. If so, a long syllable is necessary, whence the proposed correction.

Metrical analysis: οnly the layout of line 2 is a hint for an elegiac couplet; the placement of this tiny fragment amongst the verse-inscriptions might thus be questionable.
