Commentary

This block, belonging to a larger monument and found in the sanctuary of Apollo should not have been moved very far away from its original place.

A space is left before the beginning of the first name, whereas the father's name ends exactly on the right edge of the block, showing that the text went on on the next block. The inscribed line is placed very low on the face. No traces for the attachment of a statue are mentioned. All those facts are clues for a dedication and not for a honorific statue of the mentioned man.

The name and father's name of the dedicant may be found in the reverse order in two inscriptions (IGCyr021000 for an eponym priest about 250 B.C. and IGCyr065210 for a contributor about 280 B.C.). Although both names are frequent at Cyrene, the lettering induces to establish a link between all three mentions: the priest and contributor would be the father of the present dedicant.
