White marble rectangular base with holes for attachment of a statue: one circular hole for a raised foot at back left, one oval hole for a resting foot at front right (0.495; 0.15;0.64).

Layout

Inscribed in one line on the face, near the upper rim.

Letters

0.035, carefully cut, no serifs; slightly smaller omicron, slanting sigma.

Probably last quarter of fourth or first quarter of third century B.C. (lettering)

Possibly found during the Italian excavations before World War II at Cyrene : Sanctuary of Apollo .

Last recorded Location

Seen by C. Dobias-Lalou in 1977 and again in 2001 placed on a wall in the area of the Temple of Asklepios .

Commentary

Although both names are frequently used in Cyrene, the lettering allows to suggest that this man might be the father of one Aristis son of Lysis, a contributor mentioned at IGCyr065210, ii.105.
