Commentary

When seeing the inscription, C. Dobias-Lalou did not see anything after the iota of the third syllable in the name of the Eumenides. Following the numerous examples cut in the neighbourhood with the plural, she was prone to edit, as above, a plural. However, on Ferri's copy there are several short bars scrawled after that iota, which might be relevant for a sigma. One Eumenide at the singular is now known near Cyrene (see IGCyr133800), so that this possibility should not be completely excluded.
