Commentary

This base was published by Pugliese Carratelli from a drawing and a very succinct description of Anti's papers (without reference to a precise sketchbook).

As it was re-used on the border of the Sanctuary of Apollo, we suppose that the original place of the base was in the Sanctuary. If so, it was honorific and not funerary. In absence of any description of its upper face, this remains only probable.

It is an tantalizing guess of Laronde's to identify this man with the well known homonymous priest whose duty he was able to date about 335 B.C. Without any idea of the lettering, this should remain a hypothesis.
